Symptoms
& Signs:
  • First appears as small, yellow flecks on leaves
  • Flecks enlarge to form rust-colored pustules
  • Overall turf color may be yellow-orange to reddish-brown
  • Turf yellows, withers and dies
  • Grasses
    Affected:
  • All cool-season grasses: especially perennial ryegrass and
        certain cultivars of Kentucky bluegrass
  • Causal
    Agent(s):
  • Fungi: Puccinia spp. & Uromyces spp.
  • Time of
    Occurence:
  • Late summer to fall (or during mild winter months)
  • Conditions that
    Favor Disease:
  • Moderately warm and humid
  • Stressed turf (lack of water fertilizer, etc.)
