Fusarium Blight

Symptoms
& Signs:
  • Begins as dark circular patchest that appear
        drought-stressed
  • Later, patches turn light straw color
  • Shapes of patches may be streaks, crescents or circles
  • Shapes of patches may form "frog eyes" (brown areas
        with green turf in center)
  • Crowns usually die
  • Grasses
    Affected:
  • Kentucky buegrass, bentgrass, fine fescue, ryegrass and
        tall fescue
  • Causal
    Agent(s):
  • Fungi: Fusarium roseum & Fusarium tricinctum
  • Time of
    Occurence:
  • Summer to late summer
  • Conditions that
    Favor Disease:
  • Daytime temperatures of 80º - 95º F and night
        temperatures above 70º
  • Humid conditions
  • Stressed turfgrass ( especially drought-stressed)
  • Heavy thatch accumulation
  • Additional
    Note:
  • More common in areas where heat or drought occurs:
        near paved surfaces, slopes and exposed sites
