Fire Blight

Plant Damage / Signs:
  • First flowers droop, shrivel and turn brown
  • Later shoot tips and terminal leaves droop,
        turning brown or black
  • Leaves appear scorched
  • Stems develop cankers (brown to black)
  • Large section of plant may be killed


  • Conditions:
  • Warm and wet


  • Note:
  • Fire Blight is caused by bacteria

  • Bacterial blight of Lilac - Leaf spot,
        shoot blight and cankers

  • Apple
  • Cotoneaster
  • Firethorn
  • Hawthorn
  • Loquat
  • Mountain Ash
