A SHORT NOTE ON THE FALL APPLICATION
FROM HAMMERSTONE TO OUR VALUED CUSTOMERS
We have fertilized your lawn with a dry granular fertilizer today. The Fall application is a homogeneous product, which means that each idividual fertilizer pellet contains the same analysis. This insures that we have a uniform greening up of our customer's lawns. This dry formulation is flexible, so that seeding can be done before or after this application. The application will not harm newly seeded or sodded lawns.
We have been experiencing drought conditions this summer, so you will want to water your lawn to a depth of three inches once this application has been applied. You may be required to water the lawn for an hour or more. During periods of dryness, moisture levels in the soil may vary in different areas of your lawn, which may lead to uneven greening growth of the grass after the fertilizer is applied. If you feel that this spottiness is a problem in your lawn, a thorough watering or soaking rain will correct the problem.
What about children and pets on the lawn? The fall application is very safe and non toxic to humans and animials. The application contains no pesticides. However, it is very important to keep an eye on small toddlers that may pick up individual pellets and ingest them, otherwise walking or playing on the lawn will not cause problems.
What about seeding? Due to the stressful year we have been experiencing and poor soil conditions of this area, it is likely that your entire lawn or part of your lawn may need to be reseeded. This is especially true if you had an infestation of Brown Thatch Disease. If you would like to seed your lawn, we suggest you give us a call and schedule Hammerstone to do your seeding for you. We offer the best guarantee in the business and we use the best available seed blend on the market. We will continue to seed lawns until mid - November. It will take longer for the seed to germinate once the temperature drops below 70 degrees. So, you should call and schedule any seeding to be done immediately! We offer the best guarantee around, 90% germination or we'll come back and reseed at no charge! We guarantee our service, please guarantee us payment.
Once your lawn begins to green up and starts growing again, it will be okay to lower your mower height back down to three or four inches. A lower mowing height may be detrimental to the health of your lawn. Also, remember to keep the leaves off the lawn once they begin to fall. Grass will die if leaves are allowed to stay on the lawn for more than four or five days.
If moles are a problem in the lawn, you may need an insecticide application. This is due to the white grub population in the lawn. If this is the case, please give us a call and schedule an insecticide application. The cost is the same as your regular application charge. Remember, the grubs eat the feeder roots off of the grass, placing the grass plant in a stressful situation. Without feeder roots, grass plants will die or show signs of severe stress. The plants are unable to absorb essential nutrients from the soil, such as water and fertilizer!
Please, call us if you have any questions or concerns about your lawn. Our office hours are Monday thru Friday, 8am - 4pm. Carla Pace, our office manager, will be happy to answer any questions or address any concerns you may have.
